Surgery Aftercare

Recovery whenever you have an operation is super, super important you need to give your body time to heal and mentally recover from being poked and prodded by alien objects. We at Sheen Dental Implants really recommend you take some time for yourself post surgery, to allow your mouth the time it needs to heal, and don’t worry when we say time we only mean a few days. Enjoy a sofa saturday to catch up on your favourite netflix show and recruit the family to take over the household chores. Where you can avoid any strenuous activity and exercise for a week and keep out any saunas, steams or sun beds. We’d recommended introducing hard or chewy foods back into your diet slowly, and try where you can to chew on the other side of your mouth in the first few days post op. If you follow these guidelines you’ll only speed up your recovery time so you can get back to chasing the kids round the playground or running your next Friday run club route.

Keeping Clean

For some reason lots of patients can get the idea that because dental implants aren’t ‘real teeth’ they don’t need to be cared for in the same way – but this couldn’t be more wrong. Dental implants need excellent cleaning in order to keep the bad bacteria at bay. Bacteria which if left to multiply could cause irreversible damage to your dental implants – but don’t worry just basic oral hygiene will keep your dental implants super healthy

Sheen Dental Implants Recommend

In order to maintain healthy teeth, gum and implants the team recommends the following oral hygiene routine.

Twice daily brushing for at least two minutes – that’s thirty seconds on each quarter. For best results clean after breakfast and just before bed. If you want bonus points brushing after lunch won’t hurt you.

Flossing EVERY DAY. Yes – that’s everyday! We know flossing can feel really time consuming and boring but once you make it a habit it can be the difference between having teeth or not having teeth. Try and think of flossing as part of your self-care routine and not a monotonous task that way you’re changing the narrative for yourself.

Check ups from the neck up. Now you have dental implants it’s more important than ever that you’re coming to see us super regularly, we need to keep changing the health of your implants so we can spot any issues super early on. We want your investment to last but can only do that if you come and see us.
